Originally commissioned by Wallpaper* magazine for its annual 'Handmade' exhibition, 'Shoe Tree' comprises 15 individual wooden shoe boxes slotted into a central tower structure. ‘Storing shoes is always challenging in terms of space and aesthetic,’ says shoe designer Beatrix Ong. Collaborating with Samuel Chan and J+J, they have created a piece that is both storage and display. Handcrafted from American black walnut, each box features marquetry details and finger joints. J+J 'Special Editions' is a small collection of fine furniture pieces, expressing original design thinking and detailed to show the maker's handcraft at its best and most exacting. Made in small numbers, these special, contemporary objects are designed to be beautiful to look at and a joy to use: pieces to invest in now, and to pass on in the future.
